The Party with the Stars on March 7 at the Lido Theatre was a success with celebrities entering the Lido on The Red Carpet to rousing cheers from the paparazzi.  Spontaneous Combustion Improv Theatre performed during the intermissions.
While the surprising results played out on the screen with The Hurt Locker winning more Oscars than Avatar, the audience enjoyed non-stop popcorn and pizza. Prizes and draws were held throughout the evening. The table of Linda and Michael Bourcet won the Oscar questionaire and will enjoy tickets to the first show of the Stage North season in October 2010-2011. Even the winning table could not have foreseen the triumphant win of Kathryn Bigelow as Best Director, the first women director to receive an Oscar.

Many donations made it possible and Stage North is thankful to:

Hamilton Copiers for posters, Nakisha Bauer for the poster design, Esteem Cleaning for the Red Carpet, Extreme Signs for Oscar signs, Imagine That for the door draw prize of a picnic basket complete with cutlery, plates and wine glasses, Aurora Cinema for the movie passes for draws and the wonderful movie posters and stand-ups, On the Rocks Neighbourhood Pub for the Oscar statues, Olio's, Panago and Domino's Pizza for the delicious pizzas, Church of Jesus Christ Latter Day Saints for the tableclothes, and Astral, Moose FM and NE News for publicity on the event, and the Lido theatre for their assistance.

Catch the Oscar's on the Big Screen next year- same time--same place and enjoy an evening of fun and prizes with Stage North and company in 2011.

Community theatre at its best will be featured at the North Peace Cultural Centre in Fort St. John on May 4-9, 2010 when 6 community productions will be staged by theatre clubs from Fort St. John, Hudson's Hope, Tumbler Ridge and Dawson Creek. Adjudicator Andrew McElroy will be selecting one production to represent the Peace Region at Theatre BC Mainstage in Kamloops in early July.

Community theatre in Northern BC has its roots as far back as the 1930's when original plays were written and performed by residents of the Peace Country. The first Hamber Award in British Columbia was won by a theatre troope in Fort St. John in 1952.
