Fountain pen on paper

Our monthly Spread the Word Open Mike will be held on Tuesday, May 18 at 7pm.

Each month a stimulating group of people get together to read their work and contribute to the ensuing discussions. Whether you are a poet, writer, or reader, your presence is welcome.

Now in its second year, the Spread the Word Open Mike is FSJ's place for anyone interested in the written or spoken word.

Happy May and Happy Mother's Day!

My name is Angela Fehr. Those of you who know me know that I love picking berries, and I live in a fantastic part of the country for berry picking.  We have wild strawberries, blueberries, raspberries, huckleberries, cranberries and even more that aren't quite so delicious, except to birds and bears! Even more than picking berries, I love painting berries, and just in time for Mother's Day I have assembled a note card collection featuring my favourite berry paintings.

Eliza Massey Stanford is having a show of paintings at Peace Gallery North from May 7-28, 2010.   The show, entitled "Sunny with Cloudy Periods", is comprised of a series of paintings of the landscapes in the Peace region.  Eliza has put down her camera this time around to capture the sense of wide open space and incredible northern skies on canvas, taking photos only to record the scenes and the clouds so she can work them into paintings in her studio.

Claudia is an official pre-teen, still reeling from her parents' divorce. Her father is getting re-married, she has a science fair project coming due, and she is in the physical and emotional throes of puberty. Finding refuge in the basement of her school, Claudia discovers the pain at the centre of her brimming child's heart. Some important adults in Claudia's life—her grandfather, her father's new girlfriend, and the school custodian—shed light on her situation.

This play contains some coarse language.

Stage North will present I, Claudia on April 22nd-24th at the North Peace Cultural Centre.  Showtime is 7:30 PM.  Tickets are $20 for adults, $17 for students and seniors and $14 for children. Tickets are available from the Cultural Centre Box Office, by phone at (250) 785-1992 or 1-877-785-1992, or online.
